Grateful Dead ‘All The Years Live’ Video Series: “Bertha” From Rich Stadium 1989 [Watch]

first_imgThe latest installment in the Grateful Dead‘s All The Years Live archival video series is available now on the band’s YouTube page. This entry highlights the Dead’s performance of “Bertha” at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, NY on July 4th, 1989.This clip joins fellow 7/4/89 entries “Touch of Grey” and “Cold Rain And Snow” from the site now known as Bills Stadium. “Bertha” came as the show-opener for the concert that would later be officially released as Truckin’ Up To Buffalo in 2005. Kicking off with the high-intensity stomper, this live cut—as well as the entire concert itself—personifies the very best of the Dead in 1989.Grateful Dead archivist and legacy manager David Lemieux notes in the video’s description,From its opening notes, we knew this was going to be a show on July 4th. This Bertha finds the Dead in fine form, carrying on the energy they’d ended the previous show in Foxboro.Watch the Grateful Dead perform “Bertha” on Independence Day, 1989 at Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, NY.Grateful Dead – “Bertha” – Orchard Park, NY – 7/4/89[Video: Grateful Dead]Previous installments of the Dead’s ongoing All The Years Live series have included:“China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider” from 10/2/87 at Shoreline Amphitheatre“Playing In The Band” from 6/9/1991 at Buckeye Lake“Sugar Magnolia” > “Scarlet Begonias” from 7/16/1990 at Rich Stadium“Standing On The Moon” from 7/7/89 at JFK Stadium“Truckin’” from 6/13/93 at Rich Stadium“Fire On The Mountain” from 10/31/80 at Radio City Music Hall“Mississippi Half-Step” from 7/16/90 at Rich Stadium“The Wheel” > “All Along The Watchtower” from 6/11/93 at Buckeye Lake“Wharf Rat” from 7/6/90 at Cardinal Stadium“Uncle John’s Band” from 10/19/74 at Winterland Ballroom“Ship of Fools” from 7/16/90 at Rich Stadium“West L.A.
