Andy Murray set for summer reunion with former coach Ivan Lendl

first_imgBritish tennis star Andy Murray will reunite with former coach Ivan Lendl on Monday, the Scot has revealed in a statement. The 56-year-old will return to Murray’s team ahead of a busy summer schedule, starting at this week’s Aegon Championships.World number two Murray enjoyed much of his career highlights under the guidance of Lendl, winning the U.S Open and Olympic Gold in 2012, before becoming the first British winner of the men’s singles at Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.The pair split in March 2014, with former French ace Amelie Mauresmo replacing Lendl in the summer of the same year. Despite regaining the world number two spot, grand slam titles remained difficult to grasp and the Scot parted ways with Mauresmo last month. With Lendl in the frame once more, Murray will be hoping to emulate past successes.“I had two very successful years working with Ivan” Murray said. “He’s single-minded and knows what it takes to win the big events. I’m looking forward to Ivan joining the team again and helping me try and reach my goals.”Lendl’s guidance saw Murray fend off both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on the way to securing his major achievements, and the Ostrava-born coach is equally excited at the opportunity to resume their working partnership.Lendl said: “I enjoyed working with Andy in the past. Andy and I have always stayed in contact so it should be fun to be part of his team again.”last_img read more
